The coloring on this Cone is made using cane. There is a process in glass blowing known as "pulling cane." To state it simply, a 2 person team takes a large blob of colorful glass between two pipes and the team members walk away from one another (each holding a pipe). The result is that the blob turns into a linguine sized rod of glass 100-200 feet long. Yes, this is quite a sight to see. The cane (the rod of linguine) rapidly cools and is then broken into lengths that allow it's use in a piece like the one you see below. How the cane is applied to the piece is another story...
