Carter Lake . Flatirons . Horsetooth Reservoir
During the later portion of my freshman year at the University of Colorado at Boulder, I discovered Carter Lake. This reservoir was completed in 1952 as part of the C-BT (Colorado River - Big Thompson River) project. The C-BT was a long running project that took some 35 years to complete. The idea was to bring water from the Colorado River through the great divide, down the east side of the range, and across the plains of northeastern Colorado. The plan worked. I found Carter Lake for it's rock climbing, but soon discovered it's treasures for creating rock sculptures. Sunset, sunrise, moonrise, mid-day, no mater the time, I 've been there.
