Much of the southwestern United States is composed of sandstone, and over millions of years, the influence of wind and water (containing suspended abrasives like sand) have carved the landscape into a maze of canyons and cliffs. One of my loves is to be emersed in this environment with such features as slot canyons, arches, and ampitheatres. My line of Sand-Swissed pieces is designed to express these wonders of erosion in a characteristicly polished medium, glass. This spring I traveled to the Escalante region of Utah in search of things I hadn't seen before. While I have been there before, I am always amazed by how alive I feel out there.
